🍑 Whether you're a first-time picker or a seasoned pro, here are some helpful tips to make the most of your visit and keep your peaches fresh and flavorful long after you leave.
How do I know which Peaches are ripe?
-
Look at the color: You will know a peach is ripe when there isn't any green on the skin of it. Depending on the variety, the skin will have changed from yellow or white, or will have a very bright red-orange color.
-
Gently touch the peach: Without squeezing too hard, the peach will have some "give" to it. Be careful not to squeeze too hard - it will cause bruising! Ripe peaches will easily separate from the tree.
-
Smell the peach: A ripe peach will give off a sweet aroma. Peaches that aren't ripe have little to no smell.
-
Gently Does It: Ripe peaches bruise easily. Use your fingertips to gently cup the fruit and give a slight twist. If it resists, it’s not ready yet.
-
Freezing for Later: Want to enjoy that summer flavor all year long? Slice, peel, and pit your peaches, then freeze them on a baking sheet before transferring to a freezer bag. Add a little lemon juice to prevent browning.
-
Pro Tip: Avoid storing peaches in plastic bags—they need air circulation to stay fresh and flavorful.
Peach Storage Tips
-
Don't need leave peaces in a plastic bag, in the sun, or inside of a hot car for too long. They won't ripen evenly.
-
Put peaches in the refrigerator ONLY if you want to slow down the ripening process. They should keep for 5-7 days in a refrigerator.
Are pets allowed in the U-Pick peach area?
